Terra co-founder Do Kwon says he’s not ‘on the run’
Do Kwon, the co-founder of the Terra ecosystem, took to Twitter on Saturday asserting he’s “not ‘on the run’ or anything similar” after the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said Kwon wasn’t in the city-state. On Sept. 14, South Korean authorities issued an arrest warrant for Kwon and five other associates for alleged violations of the country’s capital markets laws. All were known to be in Singapore at the time, with prosecutors also attempting to revoke their passports a day later on Sept. 15. “For any government agency that has shown interest to communicate, we are in full cooperation and we …

South Korean prosecutors apply to revoke Do Kwon and other Terra employees' passports
According to local news outlet gynews.kr, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office's Joint Financial Securities Crime Investigation Team says it will be contacting the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to nullify the passports of Terra Luna co-founder Do Kwon and five other project developers. Prosecutors also plan to contact Interpol and escalate the South Korean arrest warrant issued the day prior into an international arrest warrant. All Terra Luna members named in the warrant reside in Singapore, a country that does not have an extradition treaty with South Korea. Targeted individuals on the warrant include Mo Han and Mo Yu, …

Apollo DAO to close vaults on Terra Classic
Around the same time a South Korean court issued an arrest warrant for Terra co-founder Do Kwon, Apollo DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization building on the Terra blockchain, said it was closing down its vaults on Terra Classic. The project's developers wrote: "Since the collapse of Terra, Apollo has continued to maintain its LP [Liquidity Provider] vaults on Terra Classic; however, due to the low return and high level of required maintenance, it no longer makes sense to support the Terra Classic network." The Apollo DAO, comprised of over 10,000 token holders, built its vaults primarily for trading the Terra …

Crypto influencer FatManTerra claims to have gathered over $100,000 worth of Bitcoin (BTC) from crypto investors in an investment scheme that was later revealed as fake. The crypto researcher said he created the fake investment scheme as an experiment and to teach people a lesson about blindly following the investment advice of influencers. The account on Twitter has around 101,100 followers and is mostly known for being a former Terra proponent that now actively speaks out against the project and founder Do Kwon following its $40 billion collapse in May. Twitter-famous crypto trader AIgod has brought a smile to the community after announcing he’s doubled his "Inverse Cramer" portfolio in just a month by "simply" inverse trading against CNBC’s Mad Money host Jim Cramer. In his latest tweet on Aug. 22, the trader, who became famous on Twitter for pre-empting the fall of Terra Luna’s collapse earlier this year, said he has just flipped to a long position on his inverse Jim Cramer account following a bearish tweet from Cramer about the state of the Nasdaq. Was a bit late but flipped long on the Cramer account, Jim bearish on …

Do Kwon reportedly hires lawyers in S.Korea to prepare for Terra investigation
Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon has reportedly hired a lawyer from a domestic law firm in South Korea just days after claiming the South Korean authorities are yet to reach out to him or file any charges against him. According to a local media report, Kwon recently submitted a letter of appointment to an attorney at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, the department that is currently investigating the Terra-LUNA collapse. While Kwon claims no charges were filed against him, prosecutors in South Korea behind the investigation of Terraform Labs reportedly executed a search and seizure in 15 firms in …

Do Kwon breaking silence triggers responses from the community
As the Terra (LUNA) co-founder and CEO Do Kwon breaks his silence about the collapse of the algorithmic stablecoin Terra USD (UST) and LUNA, the community responded with various sentiments against the Terra executive. Despite Kwon’s attempts to clear his name in an interview, community members remain unhappy with the Terra CEO. In a tweet, podcaster Eric Conner compared Do Kwon's situation with the Tornado Cash developer who has been arrested. According to Conner, Kwon scammed billions and is still “partying” while Tornado Cash developers wrote some code for privacy and are now “fearing for their lives.” Crypto researcher FatManTerra …

$475M in Bitcoin options expire this week — Are bulls or bears poised to win?
Bitcoin (BTC) has been posting higher lows for the past eight weeks, but during this time, BTC has not been able to flip the $24,000 resistance to support on at least three different opportunities. This is precisely why the $475 million Bitcoin options expiry on Aug. 12 might be a game changer for bulls. Considering the current regulatory pressures in play, there seems to be a good enough rationale for avoiding bullish bets, especially after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission pressed charges against a former Coinbase manager on illegal securities trading on July 21. The additional impact from the …

Law Decoded, July 4–11: Access denied for crypto-owning policymakers
It’s been a century or so since the property qualification came out of vogue, but it doesn’t seem a problem if you want to apply it to crypto and policymaking. An advisory notice released by the United States Office of Government Ethics last week states that the de minimis exemption — which allows for the owners of securities who hold an amount below a certain threshold to work on policy related to that security — is universally inapplicable when it comes to cryptocurrencies and stablecoins. As the note specifies, even holding a mere $100 of a certain stablecoin should prevent …

Tether fortifies its reserves: Will it silence critics, mollify investors?
There is an old Arabic proverb: “The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.” It could summarize the journey to date of Tether (USDT), the world’s largest stablecoin. Tether has been embroiled in legal and financial wrangling through much of its short history. There have been lawsuits over alleged market manipulation, charges by the New York State attorney general that Tether lied about its reserves — costing the firm $18.5 million in fines in 2021 — and this year, questions voiced by United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen as to whether USDT could maintain its peg to the U.S. dollar. …

Terra crash highlights stablecoin risk to financial stability: ECB
The European Central Bank (ECB) has released a report analyzing the growth of the cryptocurrency market over the past decade and the risks it poses to the existing financial system. A section of the report dedicated to stablecoins discussed the central role that it plays in the current ecosystem. Stablecoins are increasingly used to interlink various blockchain networks and play a critical role in offering liquidity to the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. The report further analyzed whether these stablecoins could find a place in the traditional financial system, but concluded that a lack of regulatory oversight added to the recent …
