NFT projects and high-yield opportunities back Zilliqa’s strong rebound
One of the most important factors in the long-term success of a blockchain platform is having an active community of supporters and developers that work to showcase the capabilities of the network by creating new products and interacting with projects on the protocol. Zilliqa (ZIL) is one project that saw its price surge throughout August as developers built out its ecosystem and made improvements to the protocol. Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that after hitting a low of $0.05 on July 20, the price of ZIL proceeded to rally 145% to a swing high at $0.1244 on …

SOL burn? Solana price hits $100 for the first time after mysterious ‘Ignition’ event revealed
Solana (SOL) prices rose on Monday as traders speculated on what appeared to be a key but mysterious feature launch scheduled for later this week. The SOL/USD exchange rate climbed to a new record high of $103.06 following a 9.35% intraday rally. The upside move surfaced days after Solana introduced “Ignition” on its official media handles. However, the team provided little details about the tool but prompted the community to guess that it would be about burning SOL tokens. The speculation surfaced majorly because of Solana’s Ignition teaser video, which featured a purple flamed lighter. burn... — #A_freak_show_to_freaks (@JustDafong) August …

Solana hits record high with SOL price up over 218% in six weeks — What's behind the rally?
Solana (SOL) prices printed another milestone of nearly $85 high on Aug. 27 as traders assessed a flurry of optimistic fundamentals, including Solana's potential foray into Wall Street. On Aug. 24, digital asset management firm Osprey Funds registered a first-of-its-kind Solana fund with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In doing so, the New York firm hinted at giving institutional exposure to SOL markets as the token's value surged by more than 4,300% in 2021. A day later, real-time data feeder Pyth Network announced that it is going live on Solana's proof-of-stake blockchain. The firm provides "high-fidelity streaming data" …

London’s impact: Ethereum 2.0's staking contract becomes largest ETH holder
Recently, the Ethereum network reached a new staking milestone. On Aug. 17, the Ethereum 2.0 staking contract became the single largest holder of Ether (ETH), surpassing Wrapped Ether (WETH). According to data from Etherscan, the Eth2 deposit contract now holds over 7.14 million Ether tokens, valued at $23 billion at the time of writing. This accounts for nearly 6.1% of all Ether tokens in circulation, which means that the staking rate for Ethereum is now over 6%. The Wrapped Ether deposit contract comes in second, holding 6.97 million tokens — i.e., 5.94% of all Ether. Data from Beaconcha.in reveals that …

Ethereum supply shock: Exchange ETH reserves continue to fall after a 26% drop in 2021
The amount of Ether (ETH) held by all cryptocurrency exchanges has declined dramatically in the previous 12 months. Blockchain analytics firm CryptoQuant reported that Ethereum reserves on trading platforms dropped 26.29 million ETH to 19.22 million ETH year-on-year (YoY), indicating that traders' preference to hold their tokens increased. At least the Ether price performance in the same period indicates the same. Between August 25, 2020, and press time, the ETH/USD exchange rate exploded by a little over 730%— from $407 to $3,190, signaling an erratic inverse correlation between the Ethereum token prices and its reserves across all exchanges. In detail, …

Cardano defies Peter Brandt’s 90% crash warning, ADA price doubles to new high
Cardano’s native token, ADA, ignored a serious price crash warning to rally to a new all-time high. The ADA/USD exchange rate reached $2.56 for the first time on Friday, following a 154.54% price boom that started on July 20. In doing so, the pair also ignored veteran trader Peter Brandt’s 60%–90% price crash warning, which was based on a classic bearish pattern called the head and shoulders. 3 developments signal that Verasity (VRA) price may have bottomed
The marketwide sell-off on May 19 triggered a 55% decline in the price of Bitcoin (BTC), and altcoins were hit even harder, with some tokens seeing declines of up to 90%. One project whose native token price appears to have bottomed out after an 87% decline from its all-time high is Verasity, an e-sports-focused blockchain protocol focused on increasing engagement and advertising revenues for video publishers. Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that after declining from a high at $0.0558 on April 17 to a low of $0.0073 on July 20, the price of Verasity's VRA token has …

Staking will eat proof-of-work for breakfast — Here’s why
In early July, JPMorgan released a report in which two of the bank’s analysts projected that the staking industry would be worth $40 billion in rewards by 2025. The report anticipates that once the Ethereum 2.0 network completes its transition from proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake (PoS,) payouts will more than double, up to $20 billion from the current $9 billion. Within the next four years, it will double again. With the rapid rise of staking over the last few years, it’s hardly surprising that traditional finance analysts are starting to take note. While the JPMorgan analysts are correct that the …

Treasury Dept. wants to ‘capture DeFi’ with infrastructure bill: Jake Chervinsky
The last-minute cryptocurrency provisions added to the United States infrastructure bill sought to “capture DeFi,” argues Compound general counsel Jake Chervinsky. Appearing on the Bankless State of the Nation podcast on Tuesday, Chervinsky — who is also DeFi chair of the Blockchain Association — said the industry had been “blindsided” by the infrastructure bill’s crypto tax provisions that were announced just nine days prior to when it was expected to pass through the Senate. While Chervinsky seemed willing to give most elected officials the benefit of the doubt, noting that previous discussions surrounding the infrastructure bill had “nothing to do …

Eth2 staking contract ranks as single-largest Ether hodler with $21.5B
The staking contract for the Ethereum 2.0 blockchain is now the single-largest holder of Ether (ETH). According to blockchain analytics provider Nansen, the Eth2 staking contract has surpassed Wrapped Ethereum (wETH) to become the single largest holder of ETH. Unlike Ether, Wrapped Ether adheres to the ERC-20 standard, making it the favored representation of ETH among decentralized finance protocols that use ERC-20 tokens. The findings were posted to Twitter by Alex Svanevik, CEO of blockchain analytics firm Nansen, on Tuesday. The data shows that the Beacon Chain’s deposit contract holds 6.73 million ETH — worth roughly $21.5 billion at current …
