Is the bottom in? Data shows Bitcoin derivatives entering the ‘capitulation’ zone
Analysts love to issue price predictions and it seems that 9 out of 10 times they are wrong. For example, how many times did analysts say "we will never see Bitcoin back at X price again," only to see it plunge well below that level a few months later? It doesn't matter how experienced a person is or how connected in the industry. Bitcoin's (BTC) 55% volatility must be taken seriously and the impact this has on altcoins is usually stronger during capitulation-like movements. I was undeniably wrong about how much crypto could fall from macro contagion. I remain bullish …

Boom or bust? Is there a way for Bitcoin price to hit $100K in 2022?
The internet is filled with Bitcoin (BTC) price forecasts. For example, some analysts believe that the flagship crypto will hit $1 million per coin in the next 10 years, while others think BTC price will eventually drop to zero. Without dwelling on predictions that are five or more years ahead of us, let us focus on what Bitcoin could do, say, in the next six months? Again, the forecasts vary drastically. For instance, Antoni Trenchev, the founder of Nexo Finance, sees Bitcoin price hitting $100,000 by mid-2022. On the other end of the spectrum is Sussex University professor Carol Alexander, …

3 possible reasons why Polkadot is playing second fiddle in the L1 race
2021 was a sort of "coming-of-age" for many layer-one (L1) blockchain protocols because the growth of decentralized finance (DeFi) and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) forced users to look for solutions outside of the Ethereum (ETH) network where high fees and network congestion continued to be barriers for many. Protocols like Fantom (FTM), Avalanche (AVAX) and Cosmos (ATOM) saw their token values rise and ecosystems flourished as 2021 came to a close. Meanwhile, popular projects like Polkadot (DOT) underperformed, comparatively speaking, despite the high expectations many had for the sharded multi-chain protocol. Setting aside the specific capability that each protocol offers in …

Altcoin Roundup: 3 emerging P2E gaming trends to keep an eye on in 2022
Blockchain-based play-to-earn (P2E) gaming had a breakout year in 2021, and as the cryptocurrency ecosystem evolves in 2022, the P2E gaming sector and those that invest in it will need to consider what the next steps are. During bull markets, vaporware, speculation and euphoria can lead to unrealistic valuations and expectations, and this appears to also have impacted the P2E sector. Now that the hype is “over,” investors and developers will need to identify new value propositions that catalyze growth and steady investment into the blockchain gaming sector. Here’s a closer look at some of the trends that could emerge …

A key Ethereum price metric hits a 6 month low as ETH falls below $3K
Ether (ETH) price lost the $3,600 support on Jan. 5 as minutes from the Federal Reserve's December FOMC meeting showed that the regulator was committed to decreasing its balance sheet and increasing interest rates in 2022. Even with that looming overhead, Ether has problems of its own, more specifically, the ongoing $40 and higher average transaction fees. On Jan. 3 Vitalik Buterin said that Ethereum needs to be more lightweight in terms of blockchain data so that more people can manage and use it. The concerning part of Vitalik's interview was the status of the Ethereum 2.0 upgrade, which is …

OpenDAO (SOS), LooksRare (LOOKS) and WTF token: 3 airdrops, with 1 scam
NFTs continue to surge with what looks to be no end in sight. Since January 14, 2022 OpenSea notched trading volumes over $1.03 billion, and its latest rival, LooksRare, has eclipsed the platform according to data from DappRadar. What’s clear is that NFT collectors and traders appear to be shifting their sentiment on where they are seeing value. Since the start of 2022 there's been an emphasis on “community” with a buzz and advocacy of rewarding users for their participation. OpenSea has already generated more than $3.2 billion in total volume despite many NFT traders feeling that the marketplace betrayed …

Bulls aim to turn the tide in Friday’s $580M options expiry after BTC tops $43K
Bitcoin (BTC) investors seem uncomfortable with adding positions after the most recent 40% correction from the $69,000 all-time high made on Nov. 10. In addition to the prolonged downtrend, remarks from the United States Federal Reserve on Dec. 15 about rising interest rates are also weighing on risk-on assets. The Fed signaled that it could raise its benchmark rate three times this year and there are plans to increase the pace of its asset purchasing taper. Consequently, traders are worried that these plans will negatively impact traditional and crypto markets because liquidity will no longer be "easily" available. Cryptoasset regulation …

2 key Bitcoin trading indicators suggest BTC is ready for a 62% upside move
Bitcoin (BTC) has been below $45,000 for 14 days and is currently 40% below the $69,000 all-time high. This movement holds similarities to late-Sept. 2021, when Bitcoin price flat-lined for 11 days and was 36% below the previous $64,900 all-time high on April 14. To understand whether the current price momentum mimics late September, traders should start by analyzing the Bitcoin futures contracts premium, which is also known as "basis." Unlike a perpetual contract, these fixed-calendar futures do not have a funding rate, so their price will differ vastly from regular spot exchanges. By measuring the expense gap between futures …

Here’s how traders capitalize on crypto market crashes and liquidations
The first week of the new year saw a vicious pullback across all cryptocurrencies in the market. Ether (ETH) price dropped from its November peak at $4,800 peak to under $3,000 on Jan. 8 and Terra’s LUNA governance token also dropped from $85 on Dec. 31 to $67 on Jan. 8, 2022. These unexpected dramatic moves often cause liquidation cascades in the lending market, but they also create unique buying opportunities in the collateral liquidation markets. Kujira’s Orca protocol is a platform built on the Terra network and it allows investors to bid on bETH (bonded asset of Ether) and …

Bitcoin’s transition to a risk-off asset will propel it to $100K in 2022, says Bloomberg analyst
Bloomberg analyst Mike McGlone is convinced Bitcoin is on track to reach $100K in 2022, as it completes its transition from a risk-on to risk-off asset. While the Fed is planning to raise interest rates in order to fight inflation, risk-on assets like crypto may suffer, as people would likley prefer to invest in fixed-income assets like bonds. While this trend may represent a short-term hurdle, McGlone said he is confident that Bitcoin will still appreciate significantly in 2022: “Bitcoin is in a unique phase, I think, of transitioning from a risk-on to risk-off global digital store of value, replacing …
