Fundstrat’s Tom Lee believes Bitcoin (BTC) will accrue price value following a similar logic to the Silicon Valley tech titans. During an interview for CNBC’s Street Signs Asia on show on Nov. 15, Lee argued that cryptocurrencies “are network value assets” — and share this with the world’s most successful tech stocks. “Network value assets” Lee — a renowned Bitcoin bull, co-founder and Wall Street strategist at Fundstrat Global Advisors — made his argument when asked about the logic behind Fundstrat’s $25,000 by 2022 forecast for Bitcoin. Noting that the number was set in 2017 as part of a five-year …
Kicking off the first panel of BlockShow Asia 2019, NEO founder Da Hongfei shared his views on the current state of decentralized web: “The internet is a great invention. It looks almost perfect. But is it really?” Citing examples like the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the Equifax hack, he highlighted a critical isolation problem plaguing the Web, leading to monopoly, centralization, abuse, and single points of failure. He brought up other challenges, including vertical friction, the lack of internationally accepted Web standards, and the general immaturity of technology — these issues could postpone the coming fusion of the physical and …
The web has arguably been the biggest driver of economic and technological innovation in the 30 years since its invention. It has not only lowered barriers to publishing information and accessing that information, it has also changed peer-to-peer communication, in all senses of the term, across the globe. It has almost entirely swallowed whole media industries — publishing, television and cinema — while completely mainstreaming the notion of e-commerce and online payments. For most of these 30 years, the web has been able to transform the world in an almost radically open-source way. For example, the HTML source code of …
Cointelegraph's website has become widely inaccessible in Russia as authorities added the domain to a registry of blacklisted sites. The blacklist Although Cointelegraph has been publicly on a list of blocked sites since 2017, it was only on Oct. 16 that the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media, more commonly known as Roskomnadzor, implemented the block on a technical level. The developer of a popular Russian anticensorship browser extension, who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons, confirmed the block to Cointelegraph. "The URL was added to Roskmonadzor's blacklist file mailed to ISPs yesterday," …
Earlier in September, Cointelegraph reported that Israeli cybersecurity startup GK8 had raised $4 million to finance its offline cryptocurrency transaction solution. The company developed a cold wallet with “hot wallet functionalities” that is completely shielded from online hackers because it does not require an internet connection. Apart from creating additional security layers, offline transactions could, in theory, enable complete censorship resistance for cryptocurrencies. Being able to sign, send, validate, receive and record value transfers without the internet might also be the key to ensuring global cryptocurrency adoption. To this end, there are some startups working on mesh networks (commonly called …
An open-source network says it is cultivating exciting partnerships that will help build the next generation of the internet — as well as creating solutions to tackle the current roadblocks to mass adoption of blockchain. Neo says its goal is to bring digital identities, digital assets and smart contracts in one place, leading to the creation of a smart economy. A big milestone is looming for the project as the finishing touches are added to the third iteration of its blockchain network — and as reported by Cointelegraph back in August, a detailed roadmap has been outlined as Neo vies …
Israeli cybersecurity startup GK8 has reportedly developed the world’s first offline system for transacting cryptocurrencies. The new system uses GK8’s proprietary cryptographic techniques that enable instant blockchain transactions of digital assets without any need for an internet connection, Israeli business news publication Globes reported on Sept. 18. The company raised $4 million in a funding round led by Discount Capital, a venture arm of one of Israel’s three largest banks, Discount Bank, and Marius Nacht, a co-founder of cybersecurity giant Checkpoint. Other investors reportedly included EdenBlock, iAngels, IDEAL-HLS, StratX and the Israel Innovation Authority. As reported by Globes, GK8’s new …
A blockchain project says it is giving users full control over their identities as well as their personal and professional connections — and believes its technology has the potential to revolutionize countless industries. Internet of People (IOP) describes current online identity standards as a mess. Although the web is perceived to be a place where anonymity thrives, the project claims it is “virtually impossible to perform any action online with true privacy.” To compound the problem, the process of verifying one’s identity can be complicated — with power resting in the hands of centralized providers. The project intends to upend …
French police have shut down a massive botnet that has been used for Monero (XMR) cryptojacking. Cryptojacking backed by “massive firepower” BBC News reported the development on Aug. 27. According to the police, the botnet was distributed by sending virus-laden emails with offers for erotic pictures or fast cash, and further propogated through infected USB drives. The virus, called Retadup, ultimately infected 850,000 computers in over 100 countries — thus creating a massive botnet. The chief of C3N — the French police’s cybercrime unit — Jean-Dominique Nollet spoke on France Inter radio about the power of a botnet this size, …
Blockchain-based web browser Brave has unveiled a cryptocurrency wallet for Ethereum tokens that is currently in development. Incompatible with Brave Rewards Brave discussed their work so far in a blog post on Aug. 27. According to the announcement, the in-browser wallet supports Brave’s native ERC-20 Basic Attention Token (BAT), alongside other Ethereum-based tokens and collectibles and Ether (ETH) itself. Additionally, the wallet supports interaction with decentralized applications — also known as DApps — which reportedly makes Brave a Web3 browser. However, the wallet cannot interact with Brave Rewards. This means that users cannot transfer any BAT between Brave Rewards and …

American technology behemoth IBM has filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a blockchain-enabled web browser patent. According to a patent application published on Aug. 6, IBM has filed a patent application for a system that stores web browser events on a blockchain. The browser described in the filing collects information during web browsing sessions and transfers it to peers in a peer-to-peer network for on-chain storage of the in-browser events. Examples of data that could be stored on chain include: visited websites, bookmarks, search terms, cookies, geolocation and a record of browser security patches, among others. …
