‘New frontier’ of crypto laundering involves cross-chain bridges and DEXs: Elliptic
New research from blockchain analytics and crypto compliance firm Elliptic has revealed the extent to which cross-chain bridges and decentralized exchanges (DEXs) have removed barriers for cybercriminals. In an Oct. 4 report titled “The state of cross-chain crime,” Elliptic researchers Eray Arda Akartuna and Thibaud Madelin took a deep dive into what they described as “the new frontier of crypto laundering.” The report summarized that the free flow of capital between crypto assets is now more unhindered due to the emergence of new technologies such as bridges and DEXs. Cybercriminals have been using cross-chain bridges, DEXs, and coin swaps to …

1inch wallet users get domain names with Unstoppable Domains partnership
Decentralized exchange aggregator 1inch has partnered with Unstoppable Domains to help users simplify cryptocurrency payments — a move the company says could strengthen wider adoption of DeFi products and services. Under the partnership, 1inch wallet users can enter “human-readable domain names” when sending crypto payments using Unstoppable’s naming service. This allows users to use customizable domain names instead of lengthy alphameric crypto wallet addresses. Like all Unstoppable Domains addresses, the wallet address will be minted on the blockchain as a nonfungible token (NFT), with no additional minting or renewal fees. Sergej Kunz, 1inch Network’s co-founder, said the Unstoppable Domains partnership …

Transit Swap loses over $21M due to internal bug hack, issues apology
Transit Swap, a multi-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator, lost roughly $21 million after a hacker exploited an internal bug on a swap contract. Following the revelation, Transit Swap issued an apology to the users while efforts to track down and recover the stolen funds are underway. “We are deeply sorry,” stated Transit Swap while revealing that a bug in the code allowed a hacker to make away with an estimated $21 million. Blockchain investigator Peckshield narrowed down the attack to a compatibility issue or misplaced trust in the swap contract. pic.twitter.com/KJ7u5xoxBp — Transit Swap | Transit Buy | NFT (@TransitFinance) …

How does high-frequency trading work on decentralized exchanges?
Following the decentralized finance (DeFi) boom of 2020, decentralized exchanges (DEXs) solidified their place in the ecosystems of both cryptocurrency and finance. Since DEXs are not as heavily regulated as centralized exchanges, users can list any token they want. With DEXs, high-frequency traders can make trades on coins before they hit major exchanges. Plus, decentralized exchanges are noncustodial, which implies that creators cannot pull an exit fraud — in theory. As such, high-frequency trading firms that used to broker unique trading transactions with cryptocurrency exchange operators have turned to decentralized exchanges to conduct business. What is high-frequency trading in crypto? …

What will drive crypto’s likely 2024 bull run?
Decentralized finance (DeFi) has seen tremendous growth since its inception, expanding by more than 1,200% in 2021 in total value locked (TVL) and surpassing $240 billion in invested assets. While DeFi has since dropped to around $60 billion TVL as a result of wider macroeconomic trends, such as rising inflation, the seeds are in place for DeFi to reconfigure the foundations of our financial infrastructure when the next market cycle comes. Historically, the return to a bull market develops over a four-year trajectory. This time, a recovery in 2024 is highly feasible due to the maturation of monetary policy and …

1inch users on Optimism to receive airdrop of 300,000 OP tokens
Decentralized exchange aggregator 1inch is rewarding users with free tokens for their participation on Optimism — a move the organization says will further incentivize activity on the Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution. The exchange aggregator announced Tuesday that it would equally distribute 300,000 OP tokens among its most active wallets and regular users on Optimism through a retrospective Merkle drop. 1inch said 3,782 wallets have been selected for the airdrop. OP token is the native cryptocurrency of Optimism giving holders the ability to participate in the network’s multi-tiered governance system. OP token’s current value is $1.22, having gained 5% on the …

dYdX ends contentious promo claiming 'overwhelming demand'
Decentralized crypto derivatives exchange dYdX says it has ended its short-lived and contentious $25 first deposit bonus promo, amid a wave of backlash over its facial recognition requirements for new users. The exchange however simply cited “overwhelming demand” as the reason for its short-lived promotional campaign, which ended on Sept. 1 “effective immediately.” Due to extremely overwhelming demand of the $25 deposit bonus promotion, we are ending the campaign, effective immediately. Thank you to the many thousands of new users that onboarded to dYdX today. We truly underestimated the amount of interest the campaign garnered. — dYdX (@dYdX) September 1, …

Aave community proposes to temporarily suspend ETH lending before the Merge
With the Ethereum Merge on the way, the risk research and analysis team Block Analitica proposed a temporary pause in Ether (ETH) borrowing to mitigate the risks which may lead to a decentralized finance (DeFi) implosion in the Aave lending protocol during the Merge. The team pointed out the potential issue of high ETH utilization which may result in liquidations being hard or impossible and annual percentage yields (APYs) reaching negative figures. Furthermore, the uncertainties surrounding the Merge and a potential Ethereum proof-of-work (PoW) fork may cause liquidity providers to start a bank run, pushing utilization to even higher levels. …

ATOM price is reaching for the Cosmos, but why?
As a market crash takes place, assets become oversold and typically there’s an “oversold bounce,” “return to mean,” “mean reversion,” or some price snapback to the bottom of the pre-crash range. Afterward, the asset under study either consolidates, continues the downtrend, or returns to the bullish uptrend if the downside catalyst was not significant enough to break the market structure. That’s all kind of basic trading 101. This week Cosmos (ATOM) price appears to be following this path and the altcoin is showing a bit of strength with a 35% gain since Aug. 22, but why? Depending on how you …

New fix for curse of Impermanent Loss proposed on Avalanche
Avalanche-based decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Trader Joe claims it may have found a way to mitigate one of DeFi’s biggest weaknesses — impermanent loss. In a newly released whitepaper on Aug. 23 called the JOE v2 Liquidity Book, authored by Quant developers and researchers Adam Sturges, “TraderWaWa”, “Hanzo” and software engineer “Louis MeMyself”, the developers outlined the use of Liquidity Book (LB) with an additional variable fee swap feature to "provide traders with zero or low slippage trades." /4 Impermanent Loss One of the most critical issues of Uniswap V3 is that impermanent loss often exceeds swap fees. A study …

Where today’s DEXs are falling short, explained
What are some of the best platforms available on the market today? Modern exchanges are aggregating deeper liquidity to ensure sufficient funds in pools. The number of modern platforms is rising, making it hard for a user to choose the most suitable option. KyberSwap is one competitive DEX on the market, operating with the ability to aggregate liquidity from over 80 exchanges across 11 chains extending from Avalanche to Aurora. Working hand in hand with a Dynamic Trade Routing platform, traders are guaranteed optimal trade routes and prices with an algorithm that automatically splits trades across these exchanges. The DEX …
