Creating a cryptocurrency from scratch isn’t easy. It requires extensive knowledge of various programming languages and knowledge of blockchain use cases, among other things. Instead of going through that effort, those newer to the crypto space wanting to build their own project tend toward tokens. Tokens are a crypto asset that exists within an ecosystem, like a project built on Ethereum. A token may be compatible with all Ethereum-based assets sharing the same token standard but wouldn’t be compatible with cross-chain cryptocurrencies. Essentially, tokens enable one to build their blockchain-based business or idea without the massive effort required to build …
Decentralization becomes essential as internet infrastructure becomes consolidated in the hands of a few large corporations. The onus is then placed on corporations to become good stewards of the internet, which perhaps few of them are. Unfortunately, while many users have become skeptical about how their data is being used, there is little available as an alternative to the centralized solutions available today. To accelerate the concept of a decentralized internet and give users a legitimate alternative to the setup that exists today, businesses need an infrastructure standard that makes it easy for them to provide their offerings. Similar to …
Bitcoin (BTC) was the first cryptocurrency, originating back in 2009. By offering a set-in-stone monetary policy combined with "permissionless-ness" and radical openness, Bitcoin presented an alternative opt-in financial system -- one where economic freedom reigns. The crypto space has since expanded far beyond Bitcoin. Largely driven by smart contract platforms like Ethereum (ETH), users now have access to an entire decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, on-chain programmable art (in the form of nonfungible tokens, also known as NFTs), crypto-based games, and much much more. Given that less than 5% of people globally own Bitcoin, we can consider the cryptocurrency to still …
A fully decentralized solution offers customers a simple and user-friendly way to make payments in any cryptocurrency, automatically routing token swaps through the least expensive decentralized exchange (DEX). The core DePay Payments widget is free and simple to integrate into DApps and websites, requiring a few lines of drop-in code. But it is the customer’s user experience that is at the heart of the decentralized finance project. An automated, two-click payment interface eliminates the need to send buyers off-site to a DEX to get the required cryptocurrency — a process that both requires some technical knowhow and adds to the …
Before new technologies become widely adopted, the market must first learn to incorporate them into their everyday lives. While the technology continues to make leaps and bounds in the world of cryptocurrency, some obstacles still stand in the way before businesses and individuals may start incorporating them in frequent practice. Smart contracts and their underlying technology have become widely popularized for their ability to execute secure business transactions. Complicated smart contracts are designed to execute logic based on triggering events that will result in an automatic payment upon completion. With the ability to create more complex smart contracts, uses will …
Leading decentralized exchange Uniswap has become the first decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol to generate more than $1 billion worth of platform fees for liquidity providers. On Tuesday, Lucas Outumuro, head of research at crypto data aggregator IntoTheBlock, shared a chart on Twitter showing that the combined fee revenues of Uniswap’s v2 and v3 Ethereum mainnet deployments have surpassed $1 billion. Including the fees generated by both Uniswap v1 and its v3 deployment on Optimism, Outumuro noted that roughly $1.02 billion has been distributed to Uniswap liquidity providers since the protocol’s creation in November 2018. By contrast, IntoTheBlock’s data shows that …
Binance has fully integrated the Polygon (MATIC) mainnet onto its platform, according to a press release. From now on, Binance traders can deposit and withdraw MATIC through their Binance accounts while also interacting with decentralized applications, or DApps, like Sushiswap, Balancer, Aave, and more. This integration is meant to ensure that traders can utilize said DApps cheaply and efficiently without using the existing Polygon bridge. Related: Polygon announces scalable data availability infrastructure Avail While this announcement specifically focuses on the MATIC mainnet token, Binance also intends to support ERC20, BEP2, and BEP20 MATIC associated tokens. Binance marks Polygon’s latest integration, …
Avalanche (AVAX) is replacing its months-old Avalanche-Ethereum Bridge, or AEB, with the aptly named Avalanche Bridge, or AB, according to a Medium post from the company. This newer bridge is allegedly fives times cheaper than the previous one and will act as a “growth engine” for the project’s future. The post notes that the AB is available to developers and users right now, and all previous assets from the AEB should carry over. This upgrade is occurring alongside the network’s wallet and explorer upgrades to bring “next-generation improvements” to all of its aspects. Related: Neon Labs deploys cross-chain Ethereum Virtual …
A decentralized finance protocol has launched its mainnet — describing it as a crucial step on the journey to a frictionless financial future. Radix, which describes itself as a platform for smart money, is also launching Instapass with its Olympia mainnet — an optional user and developer service that delivers the world’s first single sign-on solution for building compliant DeFi. The Radix mainnet is being positioned as a generational improvement in the history of decentralized ledger computing — and one that delivers 100 times more executional efficiency than the Ethereum Virtual Machine. This comes hot on the heels of the …
Blockchain developer Neon Labs has created a compatibility bridge between Ethereum and Solana, opening the door to more cross-chain development opportunities for Ethereum programmers. Neon’s Ethereum Virtual Machine, or EVM, has deployed via testnet on Solana, the company announced Tuesday. The EVN grants any decentralized application on Ethereum access to Solana’s high throughput capacity and lower gas fees. Essentially, Neon EVM allows anyone to run Ethereum contracts directly on the Solana blockchain. Even during the testnet phase, Neon’s EVM will support decentralized applications such as Uniswap, SushiSwap, MakerDAO and 0x. The mainnet is expected to launch later this quarter. “Ethereum …
In a battle of animal-themed cryptocurrencies, a bullock-branded, anonymity-focused protocol is making the case that it is faster, safer and cleaner than the shiba inu-faced joke coin that became a top 10 cryptocurrency this year, largely on the strength of Elon Musk’s memes. Animals aside, the Oxen privacy coin does have some reason to compare itself with market darling Dogecoin. Speed, for one. While DOGE’s block time is one minute compared to OXEN’s two, Oxen can use what it calls Blink technology, which is the default setting for OXEN to make the transactions nearly instant. On top of that, Oxen …
A new DApp offers an escrow service for transactions involving cryptocurrencies, as well as a decentralized arbitration service that delivers resolutions quickly and inexpensively — irrespective of how complicated the dispute is. PayrLink says its solution is vital because we’re increasingly living in a world where everything happens online, meaning that it’s hard to trust anyone. As the project’s whitepaper explains: “The days of meeting people, shaking their hands, doing a deal is long gone. We need to feel safe and private when doing transactions online.” Although blockchain technology serves as a powerful tool because of how it delivers transparency, …
