New data shows that United States traders are the most active across major crypto exchanges, according to a Feb. 4 tweet from data analytics firm DataLight. The U.S. has the highest distribution of traders — 60 percent — on major crypto exchange and wallet Coinbase, while on Binance, Bittrex and Poloniex, U.S. traders make up 24, 27 and 28 percent of total crypto traders respectively. Cryptocurrency trading platform Bitfinex has reportedly shifted its banking business to the Hong Kong-based Bank of Communications, the Block reported Oct. 16. A source familiar with the matter reportedly said that Bitfinex appears to be banking with the Bank of Communications through the private account “Prosperity Revenue Merchandising Limited.” According to the Block, Bank of Communications — which is partly owned by HSBC — has been using U.S.-based Citibank as the intermediary bank for U.S. dollar wire transfers to Bitfinex. Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency futures exchange CoinFlex has received $10 million through a funding round that closed last week. Recent funding and goal Asia-focused newspaper South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported the news on Aug. 26. According to the report, CoinFlex received funding from Bitcoin Cash (BCH) advocate and Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver, as well as Polychain Capital, NGC Ventures and Divergence Digital Currency. Crypto exchange BitMEX and a fine French wine retailer are reportedly partnering to acquire a majority stake of licensed — but as yet inactive — Japanese crypto exchange BitOcean. Cointelegraph Japan reported on the potential partnership on Dec. 21.
